Vaison-la-Romaine is a beautiful town with a history dating back to Roman times.  Separated from the lower town by the Ouvèze river, the haute ville/upper town features narrow, medieval streets meeting at small squares, each of which features a fountain spilling fresh water into carved stone basins.  The doors are pretty neat, too.
